Lindenwood Nature Preserve is a 110-acre wooded park featuring 4 hiking trails of varying length (one is wheelchair and stroller accessible), a pond and an open-air pavilion. Hiking, wildlife viewing, photography, picnicking and just relaxing are a few of the activities you’ll enjoy at the preserve. In addition to the Department-sponsored programs listed here, the Lindenwood staff also provides programs for scout groups, church and school groups, home school, clubs, and private parties.


Wild Zoo Halloween is taking place this year on October 15-17, 21-24, and 28-31 from 12:00-5:00 p.m. The zoo’s Halloween event has a new twist – it’s now the WILD Zoo Halloween! Enjoy the beauty of nature and zoo animals while experiencing a new Halloween tradition. Kids will get candy, enjoy a daily costume parade, visit the Mummy’s Kitchen and the Beauty Shop of Horrors, meet Broomhilda the witch, dance the Monster Mash, see animals munch on pumpkin treats and much more! Admission: $8 children / $4 adults. Zoo Members get $2 off per person!

HORSE POWER!

Meet the powerful horses used on farms... past and present. The DeKalb County Horsemen’s Association will be at the farm with Percherons, Belgians, Fijords, Spots and Mules to discuss their purpose, history, harnessing and driving methods. Meet these beautiful animals up close and then join us for a horse-drawn wagon ride around the farm. The program is free and open to all ages. Refreshments will be available for purchase. (In the event of rain, the program will be held in the Tractor Barn and the wagon rides will be cancelled.)

On the first Thursday of the month (December 2, January 6, February 3, March 3) admission to the Botanical Conservatory is just $1 between the hours of 5:00-8:00p.m. Visit during those hours and pay only $1 per person, adult or child! (Ages 2 and under are still admitted free.) The Botanical Conservatory is located at 1100 South Calhoun Street in downtown Fort Wayne.


Downtown Ice Skating Rink at Headwaters Park is open for the season November 21 through February 28. Skating admission is: $5 for children ages 14 - adults, $3 for children 13 and under. Skate rental (for those needing skates) $2. 12:00-10:00pm Friday and Saturday. 12:00-8:00pm Sundays. 3:00-8:00pm Monday through Thursday. Every Friday Free for children under 14.

Dono Ntoaso (pronounced dough-no en-toeoh-so) is a percussion theatre (drum line) with a drumming, dance, and spoken word component. Snares, quads, bass, pans, djembe, djun djun and auxiliary instruments are used to help members learn to read music and rhythms. Ages 7-18.

Jump for Life is an exercise, nutrition and hygiene program for children ages 3-15. Fields trips involve swimming, hair styling, manicures and dining out. This group also learns how to prepare healthy snacks.

Did you know the Fort Wayne Museum of Art has free admission every Sunday and Thursday? On Sunday, the museum is open from 12:00–5:00pm, and on Thursdays from 11:00am until 8:00pm. Exhibits change every few months, so visit the website to see what's currently on display. The Fort Wayne Museum of Art also has a gift shop!
